We lived together in Elmswell, near Bury St Edmunds for approximately 13 years and enjoyed every moment there, enjoying walks around the local countryside near Elmswell, at Nowton Park and around Bury/Abbey Gardens. We also enjoyed socialising in the pubs and restaurants of Elmswell, Bury and Stowmarket. Most of all we miss the wonderful market in Bury, but we moved to Bramblewick House.
In 2016 inherited a house near to Drumlish, County Longford. What were we to do?We had a lot of discussions about what to do next. We’d made a wonderful life in Elmswell but we couldn’t keep both houses and couldn’t part with the house we inherited. We made the difficult decision to sell our home in the UK and to start a new life in Ireland and have an adventure. Summer of 2016, we took the plunge and moved lock stock and Splodge Cat to the Emerald Isle.
It has always been a dream of ours to, one day, start a home business around our love for Home Crafts, from crochet to homemade soaps and bracelets to Craig’s Love for Bee Keeping and homemade beer, we will try anything, we absolutely love it.
As we moved we realised that we could expand this business and wanted to include accommodation, but the house was not big enough to accommodate guests. We happened to be watching Countryfile (BBC 1), the episode with a shepherd hut that was used as off grid glamping. We loved the idea of unique and trendy accommodation. After some research we found a company in County Cork who manufactured Shepherd’s Huts and we were sold on them as soon as we saw them. They are compact but surprisingly comfortable with a great selection of “Mod Cons” including Underfloor heating, full shower, double Bed and even a kitchen!
After many months of waiting patiently we now have on site “The Little Blue Sheep Hut” and “The Little Yellow Chicken Hut” available to receive guests.
It has been only a short journey, so far, about 18 months and we already have our “Glamping Experience” up and running just in time for the 2018 season.
Our handmade crafts are well established and the range is ever expanding, we have even set up our stall on the local craft market circuit around the midlands of Ireland.
Over the next two years, we would like to develop our brand even further, starting with the launch of our online website, blog and shop.
As we still have strong links with Bury St Edmunds and the surrounding area, we would like to give WLBSE badge holders a 10% discount on our glamping accommodation (enter the code when booking and bring your badge along with you). This unique code for badge holders is BSE031018, will always be available for you. We hope to release special offers to badge holders throughout the next year (only one code can be used at any one time, so ensure you keep an eye out for your best deal).
We look forward to seeing you and getting up dates about Bury and the surrounding areas.
