Now in its fourth year, the Dragon Festival is a family fun packed with all things dragon, from dinosaurs to folklore. This year promises to be the best ever with Epico the Dragon returning by popular demand for both days of the festival after stunning performances at the 2016 festival.
Throughout history Dragons have been part of folklore and legends, with most cultures having their own interpretations of these beasts. The dragon is a legendary creature, which is prevalent to the mythic culture of many countries. Britain, with its diverse history, has a tradition of dragons stemming from Saxon, Celtic and Norse influences, as well as those from further afield. The image of the dragon has long prevailed and is still the star of film and books to this day!
The Anglo-Saxons used the style of the dragon and serpents (wyrm) in their own art and designs- examples of these can be seen in the village and museum. People believed in dragons as powerful magic creatures who would keep away evil spirits.
There will be fire breathing and the return of the Beowulf and Grendel Puppet Theatre with gruesome tales for all ages! Come and meet Wulfingas re-enactment group and listen to their exciting tales from the Arthurian Legends. Have a go at Giant Bubbles and Dragon Nest building! There’ll be face painting, have-a-go-archery, children’s craft workshops and a LEGO building zone. Experience relaxing holistic treatments or have an adventure around the Country Park on the Beowulf and Grendel Trail. The newly refurbished Anglo Saxon galleries will also be open throughout the day. A great range of food and drink will also be available to suit all tastes.
