We Love Bury St Edmunds!

Westgate Street now called Out Westgate in the 40’s and 50’s. Quiet, tree-lined, next best thing to being in the country. With all of Holywater Meadows at the bottom of the garden, Hardwick Heath a stroll away and Horringer just up the road, (No Horringer Court Estate at that time).

Petticoat Lane was a lovely little country lane, and a peaceful green where the shopping precinct is now. No hot water, an outside loo, milk delivered by horse and cart and groceries delivered by Shreves of Spring Lane. Fresh hot bread from Finches bakery, fish and chips from Emblems at the top of the road, and sweets from Mrs Cook’s. What more could anyone possibly want?
